Exposure and dialogue programme
at WOTR
in India on the management of water resources
Water is a valuable resource that is getting
scarcer all the time. Especially in regions in Asia and
in southern Africa, the increasing shortage of water and
growing desertification is causing major problems. The
Stockholm Water Conference in August 2005 confirmed this.
Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), our partner organisation
of many years from Maharashtra in India, offers a successful
approach to participatory self-management of watershed
areas that are affected by drought. In co-operation with
the Freundeskreis (Friends of) WOTR, the EDP e.V. (Association)
is therefore planning an exposure and dialogue programme
in November 2006. The aim is that key people from industry
and politics, foundations and NGOs will get to know the
WOTR approach and the situation in which the people live,
so that they can make use of the approach and the competence
of the WOTR team for water management in other regions.
In addition, Indian organisations and parliamentarians
are to be included in the EDP in the form of a round table
at the end of the reflection.
